Clapboard Siding
Riteway specializes in vinyl siding, but we know that for many of our customers -- only wood siding will do for their New Jersey home. Our professional siding crews are also proficient at installing all types of wood siding including the clapboard style that’s a popular choice for historical restorations. We have installed clapboard siding on many homes located in older sections of New Jersey towns and neighborhoods.

The name clapboard originates with the Dutch word klappen which means “to split” because the siding was split during colonial times from cypress, pine, hemlock, and spruce logs. Clapboard siding can also be called wood siding, wood plank siding, or beveled siding, but whatever name it goes by – it’s easily recognized by its tapered profile with the bottom being thicker than the top. This allows each board to fit snuggly over the preceding piece of siding and water to drain off the surface of the siding easily.
Clapboard wood siding can be used with just about any style or age of New Jersey home. It’s available in a smooth or rough surface, several widths, and a few different types of wood. The siding can be stained or painted and must be maintained on a regular basis to prevent moisture or insect damage. We recommend that you have your clapboard sided home caulked and repainted or stained every five to seven years, but that can vary depending on the finish products you use. If you have clapboard siding on your home, Riteway offers maintenance program you may find helpful.
If you want your New Jersey home to have real wood beauty and the charm of a bygone era, call 1-888-685-0033 to talk to a Riteway clapboard siding expert.
